Heart throb Matt Cardle, X Factor winner in 2010 arrived at Gibraltar yesterday to perform at this year’s Miss Gibraltar beauty pageant. Having performed at the Miss World 2013 event, Matt seems to be very popular in Gibraltar. Matt has been very successful since winning the X Factor five years ago, having sold millions of records worldwide and continues to grow in his success.

At Matt Cardle’s press conference at the Sunborn Matt tells us that he fell in love with Gibraltar and it is a pleasure to be back again, revealing that it reminds him of his home in Essex and loves that it’s small enough to see everything in one day. ”In LA, I was there for months and probably walked the same streets everyday, it was too big to see everything, unlike Gibraltar where you can see it all within a day”.

Matt will be releasing his fourth album in October, he tells us it is much more electronic than previous albums and that it took him a while to adjust to not real instruments, but has started to like the idea. In the meantime, he shall be appearing in the West End while playing the role of Huey in Memphis, starring alongside Beverley Knight. X factor winner tells us: “In musical theater, if you’ve got any sense of ‘I feel like an idiot’ you need to get over yourself. I’m used to the performing side of things but the audience is completely different, I am not used to silence while I’m on stage! Besides this, when I received a phone call from Beverley, I fell in love with everything about the show.”

To our surprise Matt Carlde’s influences are people like Nirvana, Slipknot and Rage Against The Machine, controversy to the music he sings, laughing he tells us ”Jamie Oliver doesn’t cook everything he writes!” After a difficult year having spent some time in rehab for prescription drug addiction, life seems to be looking up for him again. Miss Gibraltar 2015 has been organised by the Ministry of Culture, Santos Productions and the Gibraltar Culture Services. This will be shown on the GBC at 9.30pm, don’t miss it!
